Tamarac Education Centre (TEC) is located in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. Approximately 540 students come to TEC from the town of Port Hawkesbury and the surrounding area, including the neighbouring communities of Troy, New Town, Glendale, Cleveland, West Bay, Creignish, Mulgrave, West Bay Road, Evanston, Dundee, Lower River and Marble Mountain! TEC opened in October 2000, amalgamating Centennial Elementary School (P-4), Senior Elementary (5-6) and Grades 7-8 from Strait Area Education Recreation Centre (SAERC).
Our school is a Grade PP-8 inclusive setting and a feeder school for programs such as French Immersion, with at least one French Immersion class per grade level. Students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse learning styles attend Tamarac Education Centre.
Staff members are committed to meeting the needs of all learners. Special programming includes full-time guidance, Early Literacy Intervention, physical education, music, Learning Centre, Youth Service Facilitators and various support staff members.
