We are very pleased to welcome students, parents, staff and school community members to the 2025-2026 year at Tamarac Education Centre (TEC)!
We are looking forward to meeting each of you throughout the year. We know that we are going to have a great year, as we work together to ensure that each and every student engages fully in learning and achieves to their potential!
The 2025-2026 school year will see a number of exciting changes, including the addition of a new Woodshop and a playground addition (projected for completion by the end of September)!
While the start of a new school year can sometimes be a bit stressful for students and parent/guardians, we would like to assure you that you will find lots of friendly, helpful faces in our school along with lots of support. TEC is a Pre-primary to Grade 8 school that offers a full range of learning opportunities for students. In addition to regular programming supports for students such as guidance and Learning Support, extra-curricular opportunities such as Choir and a variety of school sports, we also have access to considerable outside agency support and SchoolsPlus.
As many of you are likely anxious to meet your child’s teachers, we encourage parents/guardians to take advantage of the upcoming “Meet the Teacher” night scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025. This year’s event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., with a few words from school administration in the Main cafeteria room at 6:00 p.m. followed by the opportunity for parents/guardians to visit their child’s classroom(s) in order to preview the instructional space/program.
TEC is very much a community-based school, with many partners involved in a wide variety of programs for the school and community. We welcome volunteers as we strive to offer as many opportunities for our students as possible. We offer Breakfast and Lunch programs, a School Advisory Council, and extra-curricular activities all of which present opportunities for parental involvement. Please contact the school (902-625-6650) if you wish to become volunteer in any capacity. Volunteer packages are available at the Main office. Please note that as the volunteer package involves completion of a criminal record check and child abuse registry, it does take a bit of time to process, so reach out to us as soon as possible if you would like to get involved.
Positive and open communication between all parties involved in our school community is key to our continued success as a school. We would like to remind everyone that the school policies, academic calendar and school schedules can be found on our newly revised school website, along with links to the main SRCE site, which outlines SRCE policies and procedures. It is important to review these policies so that you are well informed as to both your rights and your responsibilities as members of the TEC school community. Our website is also an excellent source of school information from schedules to upcoming events and announcements, and we send out a weekly TEC FLASH with key information regarding upcoming events. Additional sources of communication include ALERTS messaging to your email or and/or phone for information of a timely nature as well as a Facebook social media account.
Finally, be sure to check your child’s Google classroom and the Parent Portal for valuable information such as homework and assignments, upcoming tests, course outlines, and teacher communication plans. A link to the Student-Parent Portal is located on the school website. Please contact the school if you require the login information for your student.
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you just want to touch base, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email.
Sincerely,
Glenn Austen, Principal
Dara MacDonald, Vice Principal
